There are a variety of computing resources available for students to use when working on the labs and the project. Remember, the tool chain used in this course will only run on an Athena/Linux machine.

38-301 Computer Lab
The computing cluster located in 38-301 is dedicated for students enrolled in one of the various CAD courses. The lab is open 24 hours a day and the lab access code will be given out in class. If you have forgotten the code then please contact the course staff. The lab contains 20+ Dell workstations donated by Intel. Please be aware that we will be sharing the lab this Spring with students from 6.973. -
Public Athena Clusters
In addition to the workstations located in the course computer lab (38-301) you may also want to take advantage of the more powerful Athena/Linux machines located in the public Athena clusters. More specifically several of the Athena clusters have HP Compaq dc5100 workstations (3.2GHz/P4/1GB) and IBM-S50 workstations (3.2GHz/P4/1GB). There are a few of these faster workstations in 38-370 and 12 IBM-S50 workstations in 37-318. The student center cluster also has many of these faster machines. You can check availability of workstations in these and all the public Athena clusters here. -
Remote Login vlsifarm Servers
For those students which prefer to work from their own machines, we have two Dell PowerEdge Dual-Processor SC1425 servers (3.0GHz/P4/1GB) available for remote login. These machines run standard Athena/Linux and are only available to students who are currently registered for the course. Please note that each of these servers can reasonably support around three students which are actively using the 6.375 toolflow. If the machines are busy you will need to make use of one of the Athena clusters (you can check with the average system load of the machine with the "w" command once logged in). You may want to consider installing an OpenAFS client on your local machine so that you can access locker documentation directly and use the text editor of your choice on your local machine. -
Private Athena/Linux Workstation
A final option is for students to create their own personal Athena/Linux workstation which is dedicated to running the 6.375 toolflow. This might be a very attractive option for graduate students with an extra machine lying around. Installing Athena/Linux is relatively straightforward. The TA can offer advice on how to setup a dedicated Athena/Linux machine.
